چکیده

Using the Pontryagin Duality and results of S. Fisher, P. Gartside (1991); P. Gartside, M. Smith (2007) and Y.D. Cornulier, L. Guyot, W. Pitsch (2008) we show that the space S(A) of all closed subgroups of a compact Abelian group A is countable if and only if there is a closed subgroup K of A such that K is topologically isomorphic to ⊕h i=1 Zpi⊕G and A/K is topologically isomorphic to T ⊕ G̃, where G, G̃ are finite abelian groups and all pi’s are distinct primes. And in this case S(A) is homeomorphic to S × [m], where n 6= m can be computed exactly. Here S is homeomorphic to the subset {1/n : n ≥ 1} ∪ {0} of R and [m] = {0, 1, . . . ,m− 1}.

Baldwin, Timothy (2005) The Deep Lexical Acquisition of English Verb-particle Constructions, Computer Speech and Language, Special Issue on Multiword Expressions, Volume 19, Issue 4, pp. 398-414

This paper proposes a range of techniques for extracting English verb–particle constructions from raw text corpora, complete with valence information. We propose four basic methods, based on the output of a POS tagger, chunker, chunk grammar and dependency parser, respectively. We then present a combined classifier which we show to consolidate the strengths of the component methods.

Chart Mining-based Lexical Acquisition with Precision Grammars

In this paper, we present an innovative chart mining technique for improving parse coverage based on partial parse outputs from precision grammars. The general approach of mining features from partial analyses is applicable to a range of lexical acquisition tasks, and is particularly suited to domain-specific lexical tuning and lexical acquisition using lowcoverage grammars. As an illustration ...

Picking them up and Figuring them out: Verb-Particle Constructions, Noise and Idiomaticity

This paper investigates, in a first stage, some methods for the automatic acquisition of verb-particle constructions (VPCs) taking into account their statistical properties and some regular patterns found in productive combinations of verbs and particles. Given the limited coverage provided by lexical resources, such as dictionaries, and the constantly growing number of VPCs, possible ways of a...

Compositionality in Verb-Particle Constructions

We are developing a broad-coverage deep semantic lexicon for a system that parses sentences into a logical form expressed in a rich ontology that supports reasoning. In this paper we look at verb-particle constructions (VPCs), and the extent to which they can be treated compositionally vs idiomatically. First we distinguish between the different types of VPCs based on their compositionality and...

Verb-particle constructions in a computational grammar of English

In this paper we investigate the phenomenon of verb-particle constructions, discussing their characteristics and the challenges that they present for a computational grammar. We concentrate our discussion on the treatment adopted in a wide-coverage HPSG grammar: the LinGO ERG. Given the constantly growing number of verb-particle combinations, possible ways of extending this treatment are invest...

Verb-Particle Constructions And Lexical Resources

In this paper we investigate the phenomenon of verb-particle constructions, discussing their characteristics and their availability for use with NLP systems. We concentrate in particular on the coverage provided by some electronic resources. Given the constantly growing number of verb-particle combinations, possible ways of extending the coverage of the available resources are investigated, tak...
